DRAGONFYRE is the pet project of Canadian bassist Trent Morley Oleksuik. It's aimed at just getting song ideas out and seeing what kind of sound and vibe comes across. Tired of the 'watered down' perfection type of recording abundant in fm radio hard rock of today saturating the airwaves, DRAGONFYRE goes in a direction of the past in a more 'stripped down' kind of sense..just guitar, bass, drums and vocals in a 'rehearsal' kind of atmosphere. What you hear is what you get...basically, it's all about doing what you do and finding your own niche..that is where DRAGONFYRE is coming from. It's raw, it's real...nuances are ALL left in and pitch correction and 'cut/paste' routines that are abundant in today's scene have absolutely NO place here...it's the nuances and realism in a 'live' performance that gives bands and musicians their identity...There used to be a time in rock and roll where bands had their own sound, their own style and weren't 'manufactured' off an assembly line with the cropped haircuts, t shirt and jeans, same compressed sounding cd's and the like only to make some record company a buck or 2..people did what they did because it was who THEY are..not what someone else wanted them to be...and that is where this project is coming from in a sense...being what Trent Morley sees himself writing and talking about within his songs..A bit of life experience, fantasy, and realism..

I wanted to do a project that was simple, no stress about bookings, and other bullshit and get straight back to my love of music. I wrote these songs on an acoustic guitar and recorded with my phone..found some musicians to record with and that's it. i had no intention of playings shows or anything. The music found its way to some local radio stations and had some air play. I began to receive emails on bookings..I add musicians on who is available at the time. this material is from my heart, and when i hear them back it takes me back to some memories i would rather forget.

Heavy Alternative Music
Central Florida native Chuck Bigras (Devis Tater) recently received the honor of being named Finalist by the Song of the Year ( http://www.songoftheyear.com/) songwriting contest. Song of the Year is an international songwriting contest supporting VH-1's Save the Music Foundation. The Song of the Year judges are some of the biggest names in music including many Grammy Award winners.
Song of the Year is excited to recognize Chuck Bigras for his exceptional songwriting ability for the song "Falling Down". Chuck competed against songwriters from all over the world for this honor. When asked what inspired the song Chuck commented that "There is music in all of us that describe how we feel. When I did "Falling Down" my emotions were on the edge, and wanted people to know how I felt/ So I made a mainstream song with heavy/angery overtones.

You know that single Going Under from Evanescence where there is that brief introduction of nu-metal rap. Well, I always thought that bit was really good. The bad news is that Evanescence only ever did that on one song. On a similar theme (but very different music) we have Phat Tater who mix alt-rock with some good old hardcore shouting and banging. There are probably five great songs on this CD and the others are pretty good as well.

It sounds like there are two band members with different musical tastes who are battling to merge their two visions (like Lou Reed and John Cale did). It's when these two styles are fused that things get really interesting. The softer side is guitar-based alternative rock with a melodic element and a suggestion of sadness and wistfulness: the harder side is really heavy guitar and a growling, insistent, argumentative vocal. The interplay of these two elements is just so exciting and gripping. Then you find out it's all the creation of just one man: Chuck Bigras - split personality? manic? maybe, but it's great to listen to. http://www.coolnoise.co.uk/phat-tater.htm
